Walk 4 Water returning to Adams

The Honduras Hope Mission’s Walk 4 Water event, organized by the Rich-Mar and District 7280 Keystone Rotaries, will return from 10 to 11 a.m. April 30 to educate local residents about the difficulty of accessing clean water in developing countries.

The fundraising program, which is accepting donations and sign-ups, invites volunteers to walk about a mile on a paved trail at the Adams Township Community Park while carrying a 1-gallon jug of water.

Educational activities along the trail and a pavilion at the end will share information about the walks that women in countries like Honduras endure to provide their families with water.

Honduras Hope Mission, one organizer of the event, is a 501c3 organization with the goal of “providing underserved Hondurans access to medical care, food, clean water, housing and educational opportunities and sharing God's love in tangible ways with the Honduran people,” according to its website.

Gary Weston, treasurer of both the Honduras Hope Mission and the Rich-Mar Rotary Club, said the event’s main goal is raising awareness, along with gathering funds for water filters, which the mission will provide to people in Honduras.

“Last year, I think we raised about $8,000,” he said. “We had about 60 people. We hope we have about 100 people this year, that’s our goal, anyway”

The Walk 4 Water trail is stroller and pet-friendly, and families are encouraged to attend.
