Metcalfe waves goodbye to 24-year political career
State Rep. Daryle Metcalfe’s official last day in office was Monday, Jan. 2, as newcomer Stephenie Scialabba is slated to take over representing the state House’s 12th District seat.
Metcalfe, a Republican, whose strict conservative views and actions were sometimes controversial, was elected in 1998 at age 36 to replace state Rep. Pat Carone.
Since then, Metcalfe has been reelected eleven consecutive times to represent the 12th District.
He issued his final Metcalfe Minute in October, when he thanked all who “supported, prayed, trusted and honored me by electing me to serve and represent you in the political arena during the past 24 years.”
Metcalfe assured his “fellow patriots” that while he is retiring from the 12th District, he is “not retiring from the fight for liberty!”
“My hope is that God will continue to bless the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States of America,” Metcalfe said.
He could not be reached for comment Monday.
During his tenure as state senator, Metcalfe focused on illegal immigration, and used his platform as chair of the House Environment and Energy committee to fight the “leftist propaganda of global warming and climate change.”
Metcalfe also opposed LGBTQ rights, including filing a lawsuit against a same-sex couple for seeking a marriage license.
Still, Metcalfe enjoyed significant constituent support during his tenure as state representative, as evidenced by his repeated reelection to the 12th District.
Metcalfe and his wife, Elke, live in Cranberry Township. They have one daughter, Lisa.
