Long-awaited project on Freedom Road to begin
Preliminary work on an extension of Freedom Road in Cranberry Township is scheduled to begin next week.
The state Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that tree trimming that will precede the moving of utility poles will begin Monday, weather permitting.
No traffic impacts are expected.
The $18 million Freedom Road project includes new turning lanes, widening, paving, drainage, signal upgrades and replacements and lighting work with service and access roads, highway realignment and safety improvements, and sidewalks.
The project is expected to be completed in November 2025.
The contractor for the project is Gulisek Construction of Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County.
