Mary Lou “Lisa” West, 85, of Slippery Rock, passed away at Orchard Manor in Grove City on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023.

She was born on March 3, 1937, in Ehmkendorf, Mecklenburg, Germany, to Paul Louis Lange and Erika Adelheide Karola Schroeder Lange. Lisa’s family fled Eastern Germany in June 1953 and arrived in the United States on Dec. 9, 1954. They became U.S. citizens on June 28, 1961.

Lisa married Leland Merle West on Nov. 12, 1957. Leland preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 2011.

Lisa was of the Protestant faith and was a member of Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock.

While living in Slippery Rock, Lisa had earned her GED with Sylvia, her sister in-law.

She was a homemaker, worked as a nurse’s aide at Grove Manor in Grove City, and volunteered at Grove City Medical Center. Lisa loved working on the family farm and sewing, and she was a fantastic knitter.

Survivors include her daughter, Lorraine “Lorie” E. (James) Shaffer of Grove City; her son, Leland J. West of West Sunbury; two brothers, Jochen “Joe” (Martha) Lange of Slippery Rock and Paul (Betty) Lange of Slippery Rock; three grandsons, Matthew West of Slippery Rock, Randy West of Slippery Rock and Staff Sgt. Joel (Lynsie) Shaffer of Maryland; her great-grandson, Colton West; her stepgrandson, James Shaffer III of Utah; and stepgreat-granddaughter, Abby Shaffer of Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

WEST — Visitation for Mary Lou “Lisa” West, who died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m. Sunday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Mumaw of Center Presbyterian Church presiding.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
