New press box coming to NexTier Stadium

JACKSON TWP — Sports announcers, photographers, reporters and statisticians will enjoy a new press box when they attend future Seneca Valley sporting events at NexTier Stadium.

The school board on Tuesday night approved the replacement of the current, 30-year-old press box at the stadium with a new, slightly larger version.

The new $1.1 million press box is to be completed by this winter.

Randy Miller, Seneca Valley’s director of buildings and grounds, said the main reason for building a new box is that the current one is not compliant with the American Disabilities Act.

The new box will have ramps on each of its two floors, which will bring the facility into ADA compliance, Miller said.

It will be slightly wider than the current press box, meaning it will be more accommodating.

“(The current box) doesn’t meet district needs for game day personnel and media,” Miller said.

He said the interior configuration will allow all inside to see the field, and will boast camera platforms and even a rooftop platform.

“Before, they were using scaffolding, so this will be safer,” Miller said.

No major technological upgrades are included in the project, he said.

Stadium Solutions Inc. will be the project contractor as part of the Keystone Purchasing Network government cooperative purchasing program.

The school board also voted to approve LED field lighting upgrades at both NexTier Stadium and Myers Law Group Stadium at a total cost of almost $493,000.

That project is slated to be completed this summer.

While NexTier Stadium is the district’s main stadium where varsity football and other athletic competitions are held, Myers Law Group Stadium is the district’s soccer and lacrosse stadium.

Musco Lighting is the contractor for the lighting upgrades, also through the Keystone Purchasing Network.
