Route 228 closed briefly Monday morning

A two-vehicle crash on Route 228 in Middlesex Township might have made some Monday morning motorists late for work.

Officer Mike Hartman of the Middlesex Township Police Department said a service truck and a passenger vehicle crashed at about 6:30 a.m. between Park and Davis roads just east of Balls Bend.

The wreck caused busy Route 228 to be closed for about an hour.

Hartman said neither vehicle overturned, and there were no injuries as a result of the crash.

He said the road surface did not seem treacherous when he arrived to assist at the scene, so he hesitated to blame the crash on the snow that hit the county overnight.

Still, police asked for a state Department of Transportation truck to salt the area to prevent any other accidents, Hartman said.

The car came to rest in the middle of Route 228, and the service truck on the side of the road in the westbound lane, Hartman said.

Some motorists turned around and used Park Road to access Route 8, while others turned around at Mars Area Primary Center to avoid the scene, Hartman said.

Hartman was not sure if Brian Costanzo, the lead officer at the crash scene, will issue any citations to either driver.
