Slippery Rock girls swimming stays perfect
Slippery Rock High School’s girls swimming team improved to 6-0 on the season Monday night with a 173-12 victory over Farrell.
Natalie Double and Ann-Katherine Burns won two individual events each for the Rockets. Double won the 50 and 500-yard freestyle while Burns won the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke for the Rockets.
Other wins for Slippery Rock included Maddy Gauselmann in the 200 freestyle, Grace Olshanski in the 100 butterfly and Tessa Szymanski in the 100 breaststroke. The Rockets swept the relay events as well.
Slippery Rock’s boys slipped to 1-5 with a loss, but received wins from Connor Wallace in the 200 freestyle, Kevin Bowser in the 50 freestyle, Cody Hartle in the 100 butterfly.
Wrestling
Butler placed third out of 16 teams at the Clearfield Duals on Saturday, losing a 33-31 decision to Clearfield in the semifinals. The Golden Tornado are 18-1 on the season.
Dual match wins for Butler were by scores of 51-19 over Meadville, 57-3 over Curwensville, 43-24 over Canton (Pa.) and 39-30 over Montoursville.
Santino Sloboda moved his record to 27-0 on the season at 107 pounds, going 5-0 on Saturday. He defeated three state-ranked wrestrklers and won by no less than a major decision all day. Kase Chopp (24-6) at 139, Levi Donnel (27-2) at 160 and Ethan Babay (25-7) at heavyweight all went 5-0 as well.
Gavin Rush at 133, Matt Zinkhann at 172 and Mickey Kreinbucher at 189 all went 4-1 for the Golden Tornado, who can win the section title with a victory at Pine-Richland on Wednesday.
Boys Basketball
Mars took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter, but could not hold on in dropping a 59-55 decision at South Allegheny.
The Planets (10-4) lost their second straight game. Tasso Sfanos scored 17 points while Ryan Ceh and Austin Campbell scored 14 each. South Allegheny improved to 14-1 overall.
Mars hosts Montour on Tuesday night.

Brookville 56, Karns City 35 — The Gremlins (11-3) had their five-game winning streak snapped with this road loss. Brookville improved to 12-2 with its ninth consecutive victory.
The host Raiders had a 26-20 lead at halftime before breaking the game open by outscoring Karns City 18-5 in the third period.
Girls Basketball
Ava Walker netted 21 points and North Catholic jumped out to a big lead early in defeating Freeport, 59-40.
The Trojanettes (13-3, 8-0) won their seventh straight game as Anna Waskiewicz added 10 points. Melaina DeZort paced Freeport (7-11, 3-5) with 20 points.
North Catholic led 20-10 after the first quarter and took a 37-21 lead into halftime.
Grove City 47, Slippery Rock 29 — C.J. Sabo scored 11 points, but the Rockets dropped this game at rival Grove City. Slippery Rock slipped to 1-14 on the season.
D.Callahan scored 19 points for Grove City (7-6), which won for the fifth time in seven games.
