School districts opt for safety, close schools
All school districts in Butler County have closed, with the exception of Allegheny/Clarion Valley, which remained on a two-hour delay as of 8 a.m.
Slippery Rock University also held to a two-hour delay on Wednesday, Jan. 25, morning.
Butler Area and Butler Area Vocational-Technical, Mars Area, Seneca Valley, Knoch, Karns City, Moniteau, Slippery Rock Area and Freeport all started out using a two-hour delay, but when the snow began falling fast and furious at about 7:20 a.m., superintendents decided to opt for safety and close the doors.
While some students and teachers will get the day off, many districts are using flexible instruction today.
Most Christian and private schools, including North Catholic High School, His Kids Christian and St. Luke Lutheran, also have opted to close.
Butler Meals on Wheels and several other organizations have also shuttered today due to the winter storm.
