Butler County GOP timeline
Jan. 27 — Bill Halle, Eric Edwards and Zachary Scherer file for the name “Butler County Republican Committee” with the Department of State.
March 24 — Halle, Edwards and Scherer incorporate the “Butler County Republican Committee” with the Department of State.
May 2 — Al Lindsay’s Butler County Republican Committee files its bylaws with the state.
May 4 — Lindsay’s Butler County Republican Committee files a complaint against Halle, Edwards, and Scherer for using the name of the established committee. (Read more.)
May 10 — Butler County Common Pleas Judge S. Michael Yeager rules in favor of Lindsay’s committee. (Read more.) Halle, Edwards and Scherer no longer are allowed to use the name, must withdraw the “fictitious” name and dissolve the nonprofit corporation with the Department of State. (Read more.)
May 17 — Pennsylvania primary elections are held. Halle and his group oust Lindsay’s committee members. (Read more.)
June 6 — Butler County certifies the election results.
June 21 — Lindsay’s committee files a petition for contempt, alleging that Halle, Edwards and Scherer were in contempt of the May 10 order. (Read more)
July 12 — A petition to intervene is filed by Gary Vanasdale. (Read more.)
July 14 — The Butler County Republican Committee holds a reorganization meeting establishing Vanasdale and Michael Oehling as co-chairs, and merges the committee under the corporation. The group also agrees to amend its bylaws.
July 27 — The incorporated committee adopts the new bylaws.
Aug. 2 — Yeager informs all parties that the case is over and that the court would not involve itself in the intraparty dispute. (Read more.)
Aug. 16 — The Butler Eagle reports that Lindsay’s committee and Halle’s committee have a verbal altercation at Butler Farm Show concerning the committee’s booth. (Read more.)
Aug. 17 — Lindsay proposes this date as a formal reorganization meeting for the committee. (Read more.)
Aug. 18 — The Republican Party of Pennsylvania’s credentials committee holds a hearing for all parties and recognizes Vanasdale as chairman of the Butler County Republican Committee. (Read more.)
The United Republicans of Butler County holds its first meeting.
Nov. 17 — Vanasdale is formally removed as chairman of the incorporated committee after missing three consecutive meetings. He is replaced by Denise Tabacchi.
Halle sends Vanasdale a cease-and-desist request. Vanasdale sends Halle a cease-and-desist request.
Feb. 3 — The Republican Party of Pennsylvania will hold a state committee meeting to address the county committee’s struggle. (Read more.)
