Andrew Daniels
It is with great sadness we share the passing of Andrew J. “Sonny” Daniels, 68, of Butler, who died of natural causes on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023.
Born in Butler on May 28, 1954, “Sonny” (as he was known from a very young age) was a proud lifelong resident of the Lyndora/Highfield area and a 1972 graduate of Butler High School. He spent most of his professional career with the PennDOT District 10-0 bridge maintenance crew.
Sonny was an avid fisherman and lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He spent many years cultivating his hobby of woodworking, from his detailed drawings/designs to building and finishing the products, which ranged from decks and picnic tables to dance props and wedding decorations for his daughters. You could always find Sonny listening to music, and from time to time, he put his vast music collection to work, DJing for friends’ parties and local events.
Sonny and his former wife, Patricia Daniels, had two daughters they adored. While Sonny enjoyed taking his daughters fishing on his boat and to T-ball practice in the early years, much of his “Girl Dad Life” consisted of dance recitals and musicals. He never missed a performance and was so proud of both of his girls in everything they did.
Sonny is survived by his two daughters, Amanda (Ryan) Gold and Mallory (Dustin) Starr; four grandchildren, Adia Gold, Lennox Gold, Nolan Starr and Nora Starr; a brother, Michael Olexsak; two sisters, Barbara A. (Danny L.) Coleman and Mary M. (Richard) Benko; a sister-in-law, Janice Daniels; and many more relatives and good friends, past and present.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew D. Daniels and A. Jane Daniels; his brother, Louis W. Daniels; his brother and sister-in-law, Patrick J. (Anne) Olexsak; a sister-in-law, Patricia Olexsak; as well as an infant sister, Mary Kathleen Daniels.
