Pedestrian hit, killed on Route 68

Fatal Crash DME

An 84-year-old Butler woman died Saturday afternoon on Route 68 near Meridian Road, where the pedestrian was struck by a car.

Rita Nauman, 84, of Butler, walked into the path of a moving vehicle at around 4:50 p.m. Saturday on Evans City Road near the Dollar General, according to Sgt. Robert Murphy of the Butler Township Police Department.

Murphy said the driver of the car, Marvin Walker, 30, of Aliquippa, was not injured. He also said he does not foresee any criminal charges against Walker in relation to the incident.

The road was closed from South Benbrook Road to Whitestown Road while police reconstructed the crash. Murphy said state police had an accident reconstruction unit on scene, so the portion of road where the crash took place was closed for about three hours.

Butler Township Fire District, VA Butler Healthcare Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the crash.

Murphy said Nauman was taken by Butler ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital, after receiving CPR at the scene of the crash.
