3 arrests made in Mars incident, police continue investigation
Adams Township police said Friday that three arrests were made following an incident involving a weapon at a Mars Area High School basketball game Feb. 3.
Police said the incident remains under an investigation and involves juveniles.
“I can confirm three arrests were made and a handgun was recovered without any shots being fired,” said Robert Scanlon, assistant chief of police, in a written statement. “Upon conclusion of the investigation, I will release a brief statement.”
The situation was reported at 9:30 p.m. and required players, coaches and others to barricade themselves in rooms in the lower level of Mars Area High School following the boys basketball game against South Fayette.
In a statement posted to the district’s website late Friday, Feb. 3, superintendent Mark Gross wrote that the incident happened in the parking lot at Mars High School.
“Adams Township Police and Mars Area School District’s School Police Officers responded immediately to this incident and apprehended the individual with the weapon. Please note that the individual with the weapon was not a Mars Area student,” he wrote. “We would like to thank our local police officers for their quick and diligent response.”
