Cranberry Township woman charged with homicide after allegedly shooting boyfriend

A Cranberry Township woman is being accused of shooting and killing her boyfriend early Sunday, according to police.

Amanda M. Hughes, 26, was charged Monday with felony criminal homicide and placed in Butler County Prison without the possibility of bail.

According to a news release, Cranberry Township police were dispatched to Brandywine Drive for a disturbance around 12:10 a.m. Sunday. The female caller reported shooting her boyfriend, Anthony D. Smith, 30, before fleeing the residence.

First responders found Smith in the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Cranberry EMS transported him to UPMC Cranberry where he was taken by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital, the release said.

Smith was pronounced dead at 1:49 a.m. Sunday.

Hughes told police Smith had been punching her in the face and head prior to the incident, police said.
