BASA updates

The Butler Area Sewer Authority board of directors at their Tuesday, Feb. 14, morning meeting:

* Approved a common interest agreement with Pennsylvania American Water, Butler and Butler Township to confirm the authority, water company and two municipalities are working together toward the sale of the authority to Pennsylvania American, which is in progress.

* Approved a measure to gain easements needed to place large overflow-prevention tanks at five pump stations. The properties are in Fisher Heights and Brewster Road in Center Township, and Greenwood Drive, South Benbrook Road and Bryson Road in Butler Township.

* Approved seeking easement agreements with four property owners in the 700 block of South Main Street, Butler. Solicitor Mike Hnath explained that any original easements on the properties have been lost to time.

* Awarded the bid for the Butler Memorial Park sewer realignment project to Hiles Excavating of Chicora for $52,000. The park’s sewer configuration will be realigned to improve maintenance.

* Approved advertising for bids for a project to correct long-term maintenance-related issues on Fairlane Drive in the Meadowood development in Butler Township. The project is estimated at more than $75,000.

* Approved the current board officers for 2023, including Paul Sybert as chairman. The board also approved for 2023 the current solicitor, engineer, insurance consultant and financial adviser. The solicitor’s fee increased by $5 per hour. The authority contracts with Dillon McCandless King Coulter & Graham for legal services, using attorney Michael Hnath.
