Casey, Fetterman announce funds for safe water

U.S. Sens. Bob Casey and John Fetterman announced on Tuesday the availability of more than $75 million in federal funding to address contaminants in drinking water.

The grant funding, from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, will enable treatment of polluted water and water quality testing, according to a news release from the Democratic senators.

The testing and treatment will focus on perfluoroalkyl substances and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as PFAs.

A recent review from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention outlines a host of health effects associated with PFAS exposure, including cancer, liver damage, decreased fertility, and increased risk of asthma and thyroid disease.
