Kelly introduces IRS Funding Accountability Act

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Tax, announced Monday that he and fellow legislators have introduced the IRS Funding Accountability Act.

The legislation, introduced last week, responds to the Democrats’ use of the “Inflation Reduction Act” that infuses the Internal Revenue Service with $80 billion in new funding without any oversight measures to prevent waste, protect taxpayer rights or measure improvements of customer service, Kelly said.

The IRS Funding Accountability Act would give Congress a direct say in how this new funding could be spent, thus holding the IRS more accountable and providing more transparency for Americans, Kelly said.

“Democrats and the Biden administration have weaponized the IRS over the last two years to pay for their tax-and-spend agenda. The time for oversight is now,” Kelly said.
