Paige Lauten out of rehab
Paige Lauten has returned home after almost three months of hospitalization and rehabilitation procedures.
A Tuesday, Feb. 21, post on the Facebook page “Prayers for Paige L” said the eighth-grade Mars Area Middle School student who was struck by a car Nov. 29 while crossing Route 228 started outpatient rehab this week.
“The process continues, and this is just another step, but at least she is able to be home for the first time in almost 3 months,” the post said.
The 13-year-old was taken by ambulance to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh after the crash, where she received treatment for serious injuries.
Paige and her family have been the beneficiary of a few fundraisers since the crash. The Mars Area Middle School Spirit Club sold bracelets that contained the message “Paige Strong” to benefit the family; and Paige’s softball team, River City Venom, had a T-shirt fundraiser to help with her medical bills. That shop’s last day was Jan. 11.
The Facebook post was signed by Paige’s parents, Amy and Burt Lauten, who said the support they have received from friends, family and the community has helped them and Paige.
“We continue to thank everyone for their prayers, thoughts, texts, calls, visits and support throughout this process,” the post said.
