Former township secretary sentenced for embezzling $150K
A former secretary/treasurer for Jackson Township in Mercer County who now lives in Florida was sentenced to prison Friday, Feb. 24, for embezzling $150,000 from the township.
Linda Baun, 73, of Largo, Fla., was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh to serve 100 days in prison followed by three years of supervised release and pay $150,000 in restitution, according to acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti.
Baun, who pleaded guilty to mail fraud in September 2022, embezzled at least $150,000 from the township between 2011 and 2019 by making unauthorized withdrawals from banking machines and charging personal purchases on Amazon to the township’s debit card, Rivetti said.
Before imposing the sentence, U.S. District Judge Robert Colville called the case a serious crime involving public corruption.
The FBI, state police and the Mercer County district attorney’s office investigated the case, Rivetti said.
