Allen G. “Big Al” Alwine, 69, of Butler passed away on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023.

He was born in Butler on Dec. 8, 1953, the son of the late Nicholas and Allene (Wadding) Alwine.

After graduating from Butler High School, Allen served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He then went on to work at Pullman as a welder for over 10 years and retired with the government after a 20-year career with the VA.

Allen had uncounted friends, he knew someone everywhere he went. He was known for his personality, his selflessness, being helpful, caring and being loved. Allen was an overall great guy, and he will be forever missed.

He leaves behind his wife, Linda (Cooper) Alwine, whom he married in 1983. He was the father of Jared (Aysa) Alwine, Justine (Justin Sr.) Barnett, Jasmine (Kevin) Karch and Judson Alwine; brother of Nicholas Alwine and Joyce Kirkwood; grandfather of Colbi, Laina, Polli, Alida, Betty, Justin Jr. and Milo. He is also survived by his in-laws, Clifford and Ruth Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard Alwine and Janet Ernst.

ALWINE — Family and friends of Allen G. “Big Al” Alwine, who died Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. A service will immediately follow in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
