Middlesex talks about Dollar General
MIDDLESEX TWP — A new Dollar General store could be coming to the township, board of supervisors members said during a work session Wednesday.
The site of the potential store is at the corner of Route 8 and Old Route 8. An application to reduce a parking variance for the store has been submitted to the township’s zoning hearing board by PTC 1300 LLC.
Exact numbers weren’t specified at the meeting, but township manager Jeff Winkle suggested current parking requirements to be at about 50 spaces, and the proposed reduction for the Dollar General will be around 27. The actual numbers will be available at the zoning hearing board’s meeting at 6 p.m. March 30, when the board will discuss the variance.
If reduced, then PTC 1300 LLC still will need to submit an application for approval of the Dollar General. “They just want to be in Middlesex,” board of supervisors Chairman Michael Spreng said, “just like everybody else.”
A pair of officers received approval to attend training in North Carolina in their field.
K-9 Officer Mark Heider received approval to attend multiple training sessions with K-9 Bolt. The first session is March 8 in Rocky Mount, and there are two others in Tarboro from April 10 to 12 and June 19 to 21. The training sessions will cover different types of searches that can be performed with the dog.
Heider was at the meeting and said that costs of K-9 training sessions near Butler County are approximately $500. The sessions in North Carolina were included with the purchase of Bolt. Travel expenses, such as gas and lodging, will come out of the K-9 budget.
Officer Michael Hartman will attend a two-day training session for criminal investigation techniques May 8 and 9 in Independence, Ohio.
“It’s a two-day training to expose all detectives to up-to-date methods on criminal investigations,” Winkle said.
Hartman will be scheduled to work that day and earn his regular pay, reducing any extra costs to the township. To reduce travel costs, he will drive to the training each day as opposed to staying overnight in Independence.
