PennDOT to clear trees in Middlesex, Adams

A roundabout will replace the current configuration of the intersection at Three Degree Road and Route 228 in Adams Township. Shane Potter/Butler Eagle

Initial work to place a roundabout on Route 228 at its intersection with Three Degree Road and Mars-Valencia Road is set to begin on March 13.

The state Department of Transportation announced Friday, March 3, that tree clearing between the intersection and Route 8 will allow for the repositioning of utilities for the $55.8 million intersection improvement project.

Crews will remove trees, brush and roots so utilities can be placed.

The redesigned intersection will have through lanes, turn lanes, side road improvements, added service roads for access control, drainage and guide rail updates, new traffic signals, signage and pavement markings, sidewalks and Americans with Disabilities-compliant ramps in addition to the roundabout.

The contractor is Independence Excavating of Independence, Ohio.

PennDOT predicts the project will be complete in November 2026.
