William Knass

Knass

William L. Knass, 92, of Zelienople, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.

Born March 24, 1930, in Braddock, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Hvizdos Knass.

Bill proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as an airman first class and level II machinist. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

He was employed as a crane operator for Armco Steel in Ambridge, for 38 years, and retired in 1985.

He spent a lot of time in Portersville, where he had a barn and loved working on his antique 1937 Ford 8N tractor. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 6177. He tended to his garden every year as well.

A jack-of-all trades, he could fix anything, especially lawn mowers. He spent years going to the YMCA twice a day. In his free time, he enjoyed browsing at yard sales and auctions, tinkering at his barn, fixing lawn mowers and riding his tractor. Above all, he enjoyed attending his grandkids’ sporting events and activities, and cherished the time spent with his family. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 63 years, Marie Ellen Post Knass, whom he married on July 18, 1959; his children, William J. (Joyce) Knass, Lori Marie Zukowski and Lisa Ellen (Eric) Lamm; his 11 grandchildren, Brittney (Jeff) Tompkins, Kristen Knass, Tyler Knass, Haley Knass, Nicole Zukowski, Megan Zukowski, Ian Zukowski, Sophia Lamm, Maxwell Lamm, Talia Lamm and Chase Lamm; and his great-grandchildren, Adalee Tompkins and another due in June.
