SRU baseball scores sweep
SLIPPERY ROCK — Devin Dunn tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out 10, Saturday as Slippery Rock University’s baseball team scored a 7-0, 24-4 doubleheader sweep of Alliance at Critchfield Park.
The Rock recorded 33 hits in the two games. Joseph Ehland had four hits, five runs scored, five RBI and three walks in the twinbill. He had two triples and a double.
Luke Trueman hammered four doubles and picked up his first home run of the season. Jon Kozarian contributed five hits, five RBI and five runs scored. Kory Bubash collected four hits, four runs and for RBI, Alex Robenolt three hits, four RBI and three runs.
SRU recorded 23 hits in the second game, its highest output in a single game since April 29, 2018 — a span of 155 games.
The Rock (5-2) completed a three-game sweep of Alliance (1-8) with a 23-14 win on Sunday. SRU exploded for 12 runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. SRU scored 20 runs in consecutive games for the first time since 2009.
Colin Cain had three hits, including a double, and four RBI. Jon Kozarian, Joey Purcell, Bubash, Robenolt and Noah Ross all had two hits. Trueman was the winning pitcher, allowing one run and three hits in five innings.
SRU continues its 11-game homestand Friday, opening up a three-day series of nine-inning games against West Virginia State at 1 p.m.
The Rock dropped a doubleheader at Shepherd, 9-1 and 5-3, to fall to 3-3 on the season. Cami Fisk had three hits on the day for SRU while Alexsa Hurd had two hits, including a home run.
Slippery Rock High School graduate Juliana Hutchinson had a hit in the second game. Seneca Valley graduate Claire Zimmerman struck out four in a complete-game pitching effort in the nightcap.
