An Ohio man was charged with driving under the influence after he crashed a box truck on West Sunbury Road on Saturday, March 4, according to state police.

Following the crash, crews were on the scene directing traffic for three hours.

Gregory O. Boone, 37, of Bedford Heights, Ohio, was charged with felony possession of a firearm without a license, misdemeanors DUI and possession of marijuana and summary citations careless driving and disregarding a traffic lane.

Police said they responded at noon Saturday to West Sunbury Road, south of Holbein Lane, where an Enterprise box truck had rolled off the road and onto its side.

According to Nathan Wulff, assistant chief of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, the truck was traveling south around a left curve when it veered off the road and over an embankment.

The vehicle struck several small trees before coming to rest on its passenger side.

Two people were in the vehicle, according to documents: Boone and passenger Ronel E. Acy, 33, of Cleveland. Police said Acy was not wearing a seat belt.

Acy was transported by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital for suspected minor injuries.

Officers said a strong odor of marijuana was detected when approaching the crashed truck. Police said Boone, who was uninjured, said he had smoked marijuana the night before.

During an interview in the ambulance, Acy told police that Boone had smoked marijuana around 6 or 7 a.m. that morning.

Police said Boone was found to be in possession of a .380- caliber pistol without a conceal carry permit.

During field sobriety tests, officers said Boone showed signs of impairment and was placed into custody.

An inventory search of the truck yielded a marijuana cigarette and vape pen, documents said.

Crews were controlling traffic in the crash area until 2 p.m. They shut the road down at 3 p.m. for the overturned truck to be towed.

Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

Boone was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $7,500 bail. His preliminary hearing before District Judge Lewis Stoughton is scheduled for March 14.
