Icy roads could result from weekend cold
Black ice could crop up this weekend due to dropping temperatures and the potential for precipitation, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.
Lee Hendricks, meteorologist for the weather service, said low temperatures Friday morning could produce an 80% chance of snow.
“It’s going to warm up, so you’re not getting any accumulation, and it will turn to rain,” he said. “You’re only getting a light dusting Friday and Saturday mornings.”
Friday’s high is expected to be 40 degrees, but snow and rain are likely come Friday night, with a temperature of around 20 degrees moving into Saturday morning. Saturday’s high will be near 30 degrees with a 50% chance of snow.
Hendricks said travelers should watch for adverse road conditions Friday and Saturday.
“The biggest concern I’d have is Friday night,” he said “There will be moisture on the road from rain and snow. There’s potential for black-ice issues.”
Heading into Sunday, forecasts predict a 40% chance of snow and rain with highs around 42 degrees and a low of 28 degrees at night. Those conditions carry over into next week.
