Buffalo Township hires another officer

BUFFALO TWP — Township supervisors made a number of hiring decisions at their Wednesday, March 8, meeting.

Colton Moorhead was hired as a full-time officer in the Buffalo Township Police Department. With Moorhead, there are now 10 officers.

“(He is a) much needed addition. We are sure he will make a fine one,” Supervisor Matthew Sweeny said.

The supervisors also accepted the resignation of the township’s zoning and code enforcement officer Richard Healey and appointed his replacement, Mark Fleischman.

“The position requires experience in the construction field in order to work with our third-party building inspector,” said Rich Hill, township manager. “Fleishman has an extensive resume in the construction field and has been the project manager on various jobs throughout his career.”

Healey’s resignation does not go into effect until April 1. Until then, he will train Fleishman, who will begin working on a part-time basis.

The supervisors then approved, in a 3-1 vote, the hiring of Tammy Balentine as a part-time administrative assistant. The title originally proposed was land development coordinator.

MS4 update

Ken Howard, director of field services at Bankson Engineers and municipal representative, discussed the continuation of and updates to the MS4 Stormwater Program.

“The Pollutant Reduction Plan design is being prepared for the Buffalo Trails Trap 2-2 area,” Howard said. “The field survey of that trap has been performed, the field survey data has been plotted and we are in the midst of preparing that design.”

In addition, he announced that plans to install a baffle block in the Buffalo Trail’s Pond C Retrofit, which was discussed during the Feb. 8 meeting, will be built sometime this year.

Howard earlier had proposed a baffle block to be placed in the pond to keep sediment from flowing into drains and into the street as a part of the township’s Pollutant Reduction Plan. Baffle blocks are multiple identical concrete or stone blocks arranged in single or several rows and orientated perpendicular to the direction of water flow that force water between and above the blocks.

Howard also said he met with a contractor to provide quotes to the Buffalo Trail’s Home Owner Association to perform ongoing maintenance in its stormwater basins.

“The township is soliciting public input and involvement regarding the MS4 Stormwater Program,” Howard said. “Also, if anybody observes any possible illicit discharge within the municipality, we are asking the public (to) report that to the township office so that we can follow up on that.”
