Winter mix moves into Butler County Friday
As a winter mix of snow and rain passes through Butler County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in District 10 is advising motorists to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, warmer temperatures due to a further north low track and higher sun angles will make heavier accumulations difficult.
“If anything, that would come in the evening time on Friday,” Myranda Fullerton, meteorologist for the weather service said. “Our road temperatures this time of year are generally above freezing. Maybe during the Saturday morning commute, be mindful of that too.”
Friday afternoon, Butler County should expect the winter mix to turn to rain, Fullerton said, and then change back towards sunset Friday night with scattered snow showers.
“No additional accumulation on Saturday, and, as far as today is concerned, minimal accumulation,” Fullerton said.
Heading into the weekend, temperatures will reach around 25 degrees while Saturday will remain cool with a high of 36 degrees and mid 20s again Saturday night.
“Then slight warm up Sunday with a high of 40 degrees,” Fullerton said.
