Harmony business owner’s drowning ruled suicide
The death of Harmony business owner Tod DiMinno has been ruled a suicide.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office Wednesday released the manner and cause of DiMinno’s death last year. The report said DiMinno drowned.
DiMinno was 54 years old when his body was found Oct. 8 in a car submerged in the Ohio River in the Manchester neighborhood on the North Shore. He last was seen Sept. 28 in Harmony and was reported missing two days later.
He was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m. Oct. 8 at the scene, according to the medical examiner’s office.
DiMinno was a father and the owner the Harmony Emporium, which sold locally produced artwork and crafts.
Pittsburgh police were dispatched to the North Shore for a report of a vehicle submerged in the river with the body of a male inside after a film crew from the YouTube show “Adventures with Purpose,” based in Oregon, made the discovery.
Pittsburgh River Rescue, police and firefighters worked with the film crew and Chaos Divers, a volunteer group, to remove the vehicle from the water, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.
The car was found about 16 feet underwater and about 30 yards from the riverbank. Sonar scanning revealed the section of river the crews searched included more than 100 submerged vehicles.
