A Chicora man, who has to report to state police for the rest of his life for a 1995 sexual assault conviction, was sentenced Thursday to serve four months in county jail for a felony charge of endangering the welfare of children.

Donald Patrick Kerry, 54, was sentenced to serve 46 months of probation, including four months in the Butler County Prison followed by 18 months of house arrest after pleading guilty to a felony charge of endangering the welfare of children. State police filed those charges in 2019 for an offense that took place in 2017 in Chicora.

Butler County Common Pleas Court Judge Kelley Streib ordered the sentence, which also requires Kerry to undergo an evaluation to determine whether he has to comply with sex offender conditions while on probation. Streib also fined Kerry $500 and ordered him not to contact the victim.

A written victim impact statement was submitted but was not read during the sentencing hearing. The victim did not attend the hearing.

According to police, the victim reported that Kerry inappropriately touched her. Kerry characterized the contact as games that included wrestling and shoving a snowball down the girl’s pants.

Kerry did not speak at the hearing.

According to the Pennsylvania sexual offender registry, Kerry began his lifetime registration as a sexual offender under Megan’s Law on March 30, 2005, after he was charged with aggravated indecent assault following a March 13, 1993, incident. He was convicted in January 1995.
