Police: Man charged with DUI for stripping in Steamfitters parking lot

An Erie man is facing charges after removing his clothing and driving into a vehicle in a Jackson Township parking lot, police said.

The incident at the Steamfitters Technology Center on March 27 ended with township police deploying a taser against Preston C. Edmands, 39.

He was charged Tuesday, March 28, with misdemeanors driving under the influence, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He also was cited for a collision with a parked vehicle.

Police said they were dispatched at 1:44 p.m. for report of a suspicious man in the parking lot.

Witnesses told officers that the man, later identified as Edmands, was pacing the parking lot and entered the building, making exclamations and acting incoherently.

Edmands then went outside, removed his clothing and got into his vehicle, police said.

He continued confronting people in the parking lot as officers arrived.

Police ordered him to sit on the ground, but he did not comply. Edmands got into his vehicle again and as he attempted to flee, he backed into a parked car.

An officer deployed a taser and took Edmands into custody, according to the affidavit. Police said he appeared delirious and was acting incoherently while in custody.

Edmands’ preliminary hearing before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz is scheduled Tuesday, April 4.
