Ernest Jones Jr.

Jones

Ernest “Ernie” J. Jones Jr., 91, of Cranberry Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, while under the care of Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community.

Born on April 3, 1931, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Ernest J. Jones Sr. and Mary E. (Funk) Jones.

Ernie spent two years in the U.S. Army before marrying the love of his life, Nancy (Sallade) Jones on Feb. 19, 1955. He spent his entire career of 36 years with Bell Telephone, later AT&T. He started as a lineman, but showed an early aptitude for computer programming. He became an integral team member in creating the computer software for the company’s billing system.

A man of profound faith, Ernie was always an active member of his church, taking on many leadership roles as well as singing in the choir and performing with the bell choir. Always curious, he had a vast array of interests from trains (both model and real) to pipe organs, from rocks and minerals to home repair. Ernie was an exceptional handy man.

Ernie leaves behind his cherished wife of 68 years, Nancy (Sallade) Jones.

He is survived by his children, Kathryn (Ron) Carter, Karen (Jeff) Radomski and Lawrence (Erika) Jones; and his grandchildren, Luke (Kim Nutter), Alex, Samantha and Jacob Carter, Jennifer, Lindsay and Daniel Radomski, and Peter (along with his mother, Allison) Jones.
