Seneca Valley baseball now 8-0

Zach Tkatch struck out four in four innings Tuesday and Seneca Valley’s baseball team moved to 8-0 on the season with a 2-0 shutout of Franklin Regional at Raider Field.

Creed Erdos had the big bat for the Raiders, collecting a double, single and two RBI. The teams combined for only seven hits.

North Allegheny 3, Butler 2 — Colin Casteel had a solid outing on the mound for the Golden Tornado, fanning 10 and giving up only three runs — all in the second inning. His counterpart, David Posey, held Butler hitless through the first five frames.

Mackenzie Parks struck out eight in a complete-game effort as Union/A-C Valley defeated Rocky Grove, 8-2.

Lexi Bauer had the big bat for the Falcon Knights, hitting a home run, triple and single while collecting six RBI. A three-run seventh broke the game open for Union/ACV.

Knoch 8, Highlands 4 — The Knights improved to 3-0 in section play as Lindsay Edwards, Marlee Fraser and Grace Hensch had trwo hits each. Fraser got the win in the circle, striking out nine.

Mars 9, New Castle 3 — The Planets banged out 17 hits in this victory. Alyssa Harris struck out seven and allowed no walks to get the win.

Boys Tennis

Mars won at No. 1 singles and claimed both doubles matches in a 3-2 win over Seneca Valley. The victory enables the Planets to qualify for the WPIAL playoffs.

Boys Lacrosse

Seneca Valley overcame a six-goal third-quarter deficit to beat Fox Chapel, 10-9, in overtime. Evan Vandewater netted the deciding marker, while Colton Garner and Grant Adams notched three goals apiece. Evan Vetter won 19 of 23 face-offs and had 11 ground balls and a goal, and Ian Wheland had a goal and two assists.

Mars 22, Winchester Thurston 1 — No other details were provided for this matchup.

Girls Lacrosse

With six goals — including the game-winner — Macy McMullen helped Seneca Valley outlast Shaler in a 12-11 overtime victory. Mia Berg helped out with three goals and eight draw controls.

Butler 8, North Allegheny 7 — Senior Mackenzie Gilliland entered the game with less than a minute left on the clock in overtime and found the back of the net to seal the home win for the Golden Tornado. Gilliland was subbed in for Tori Stevenson (2 goals) after the latter was hit by a Tigers player.

Freshman Taryn Hilovsky totaled three goals and goalie Lauren LeGrand made 15 saves in the win. Sophomore Rylee Hurley and senior captain Carmen Skal scored once each, and Carlie Baker had six draw controls.

Boys Volleyball

Mars picked up a 3-1 win over Derry Area, claiming the match by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-27, 25-23.
