BC3 golfers top Westmoreland CCC

Grove City graduate Troy Loughry was medalist with a 67 Friday as the Butler County Community College golf team defeated Westmoreland CCC, 295-346, at Glengarry Golf Club.

Knoch graduate Cory Voltz carded a 70 while Liam Kosior had a 72 and Tanner Hohman an 86.

The Pioneers’ next match will be Friday at Lake Arthur Country Club.

Baseball

Slippery Rock (16-17) split a doubleheader Friday against Gannon at Critchfield Park. The Golden Knights (14-18, 8-8) won the first game, 9-7, before SRU took the nightcap, 5-1.

Luke Trueman had four hits in the twinbill for The Rock, including his seventh home run of the season. He had three RBI and a pair of doubles. Joseph Ehland also had four hits, along with two RBI and two stolen bases.

Koby Bubash had three hits on the day. Joey Purcell was the winning pitcher in Game 2, tossing a three-hitter and striking out five.

Gannon swept a pair of games from SRU on Sunday, winning 5-4 and 11-1. Braden Olson had three hits, including two doubles and an RBI, for The Rock on the day.

SRU plays a 1 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Mansfield.

Softball

Slippery Rock split a doubleheader with Clarion on Friday, losing the opener, 3-0, before winning the nightcap, 6-5.

The Rock (23-16, 14-7) received a win in relief from Chloe Sharman, who allowed only one run in six innings. The second game lasted 11 innings.

SRU was scheduled to play a twinbill Sunday at California (Pa.), but the second game could not be played due to inclement weather. The Vulcans (17-18, 10-9) won the first game, 6-0, as Caleigh Rister struck out 11 in a route-going pitching effort.

SRU plays a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mercyhurst.

Butler County Community College 17-9, Jamestown (NY) 2-6 — The Pioneers improved to 9-3 with this twinbill sweep. Marra Patton struck out nine in pitching all five innings of the 17-2 first-game win.

Kristen Woolstrum fanned eight in 6.1 innings pitched to get the 9-6 win in Game 2. Patton pitched the final 1.2 innings for the save.

Amanda Dailey had two doubles, two singles, two RBI and two runs scored in the twinbill. Meiah Croyle had four singles and three RBI, Madison Haman two doubles, three singles and three RBI. Ashley Brenneman drilled her first career home run in the first game and added two singles and two RBI in the nightcap.

Taylor Schultz had four singles, a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Patton had a double, two singles and two RBI in the second game.

The Pioneers travel to Westmoreland Community College for a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday.
