Edith Johnston
Edith (Bowser) Johnston, 89, formerly of Renfrew, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, while under the care of Newhaven Court at Clearview in Butler.
Born Feb. 19, 1934, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Bowser and Martha Hepler Bowser.
Edith was a member of the Community Alliance Church in Butler, faithfully serving in various church and children’s ministries including deaconess. She was a longtime member of Butler Christian Women’s Club and provided hospitality in her home and outreach for many ministries. She was a beautician, running a salon in her home for two decades, and a certified hospice worker. Edith will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
Edith leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Raymond (Cyd) Johnston of Butler and Shelly (Thor) Tolo of Seattle, Wash.; her grandchildren, Amy (Jose) Talamantes, Brad (Cynthia) Johnston, and Chelsea (Tommy) Vaughn; her five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Phyllis Bonzo.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Newhaven at Clearview, caregivers Marilou and Terri, and VNA Hospice.
In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond H. Johnston, and her siblings, Lois Young, Robert Bowser, Shirley Nulph and Darlene Beahm.
JOHNSTON — Friends of Edith (Bowser) Johnston, who died Saturday, April 22, 2023, will be received from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, with Pastor Bob Thomas officiating.
Edith will be laid to rest with her husband at Greenlawn Burial Estates.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001; Connoquenessing Meals on Wheels, 102 Shannon Road, Renfrew, PA 16053; or the American Heart Association, 444 Liberty Ave. #1300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
