Man charged with firing shots from an AR-15 style weapon in Slippery Rock

Shots fired from an AR-15 style rifle caused a disturbance near The Heights apartments in Slippery Rock last weekend, and charges have been filed as a result.

State police charged Edge W. Kerry, 29, of Karns City, with felony prohibited possession of a firearm and misdemeanors reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct for the Sunday incident.

Police said they responded around 2 a.m. to the apartment complex for a disturbance and later heard dispatches of shots being fired in the woods near the building.

When officers arrived, additional shots were heard coming from a Weaver Lane address in Slippery Rock Township. Police said two males were seen fleeing the area.

Upon investigation, the homeowners told officers that Kerry had been visiting and asked permission to fire his AR-15 style rifle. Police later found 20 spent rifle casings on the front porch of the residence.

The Weaver Lane address is surrounded by other residences and apartment complexes, the affidavit stated.

The homeowners testified that Kerry was alone when he visited, police said.

Kerry was located at his residence in Karns City, and police said he was wet and covered with dirt. Kerry denied being at the Weaver Lane residence and told officers he had not left his home in five days.

Police said Kerry has several active arrest warrants and is not permitted to possess a firearm.

Kerry was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing before District Judge Joseph Nash is scheduled May 10.
