11-year-old girl injured from Friday crash involving deer
An 11-year-old girl was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for serious injuries from a Friday, May 5, crash when a deer went through a vehicle’s windshield, state police said.
The crash occurred south of the intersection of Route 8 and Mahood Road at approximately 5:26 p.m.
Police said Jacob Roegnik, 29, of Sarver, and a passenger were traveling north on Route 8 in a Honda Pilot. A deer entered Roegnik’s lane of travel, causing him to hit it.
The deer was launched into the oncoming lane of travel, striking the windshield of a Ford Taurus driven by Keri Pavelek, 42, of Slippery Rock.
Pavelek’s 11-year-old female passenger was flown via LifeFlight to UPMC Children’s Hospital for suspected serious injuries.
Unionville Volunteer Fire Company and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the crash.
