McCool

John L. “Larry” McCool Jr., 74, of Grove City, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday morning, May 9, 2023.

Larry was born in Grove City on Dec. 29, 1948, to John L. and Drusilla A. (Coffin) McCool Sr.

He married Bonnie L. Arblaster on Aug. 3, 1968.

He was a 1966 graduate of Slippery Rock High School.

Larry enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and remained there for 10 years. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard, retiring from the military with over 21 years of service.

Larry was employed by Cooper Bessemer until 1999, as a marketing engineer following 21 years of service.

Following his years at Cooper, Larry owned and operated McCool’s Slippery Rock Sportswear from 2000 to 2013.

He was awarded the 50-year lifetime membership in 2021 from the American Legion.

He was also a member of the F&AM Lodge 603, Grove City, New Castle Consistory, and Zem Zem Shrine in Erie.

He enjoyed his family, camping, watching football and auto racing, and he loved spending time with his dog, Junior.

Larry was a wonderful husband, father, mentor, papa and friend, who will be dearly missed.

Larry is survived by his wife, Bonnie at home; two sons, Michael (Micki) McCool and Kris (Bridgette) McCool; four grandchildren, Michael, Kyle, Mackenzie and Bridget; and a great-grandson, Marlin Smoker.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jeremy; a sister, Judith; and a brother, Gary.

MCCOOL — Visitation hours for John L. “Larry” McCool Jr., who died Tuesday, May 9, 2023, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be held in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
