Marion Township considers new fire call ordinance
MARION TWP — An ordinance to enable the Marion Township Volunteer Fire Company to recoup expenses for responding to fire calls outside of the township, received preliminary approval from township supervisors during their meeting Monday, May 8.
The ordinance needs final approval from the fire department and township solicitor, Andrea Parenti.
The township, currently, cannot bill insurance companies for fire department services outside of the township, according to Jason McBride, board chairman.
The draft reads “an ordinance authorizing the Marion Volunteer Fire Company to charge and recoup the costs of responding to fire calls outside of Marion Township and to establish a method to reimburse the company for costs and expenses incurred in responding to fire calls outside of Marion Township.”
In other business, the Pennsylvania Department of State notified the township it received an application from Allegheny Mineral to renew the permit for the Harrisville Mine.
The next supervisors’ meeting is 5 p.m. June 6 at the Marion Township office building.
