Hurray named All-State
North Catholic junior basketball star Max Hurray was recently named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Second Team in Class 4A.
Hurray scored 23.4 points per game this past season to help the Trojans reach the WPIAL title game and the state quarterfinals. He added 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while reaching the 1,000-point milestone.
D9 releases softball brackets
The District 9 softball playoffs begin Monday and all three Butler County-area teams will be in action.
Class 2A — No. 2 Moniteau will host No. 7 Brookville at 4 p.m.
No. 5 Karns City will travel to No. 4 Johnsonburg for a game beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Class 1A — No. 4 A-C Valley/Union will host No. 5 Forest Area at 4 p.m. in West Freedom.
North's Brown headed to states
North Catholic junior Alex Brown competed in three wheelchair events Wednesday at the WPIAL Track and Field Championships, held at Slippery Rock University.
He finished the 100-meter dash in 19.72 seconds, the 200 dash in 37.34 and threw the shot put 14 feet, eight inches. All three efforts qualified him for the PIAA Championship meet at Shippensburg University next week.
