Route 8 crash on Friday resulted in 3 injured
A head-on collision Friday night on Route 8 in Center Township resulted in three people injured, with one transported by helicopter, officials said Saturday.
Route 8 was closed for an hour as crews cleaned up and state police investigated the incident.
Dispatchers reported the crash around 8:31 p.m. at Route 8 and Pine Drive, and according to Nathan Wulff, assistant chief of Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, it involved a sedan and a crossover SUV.
“It was exactly head-on,” he said. “One vehicle was traveling north and one was traveling south.”
The driver of the sedan had to be extracted from the vehicle, Wulff said.
A LifeFlight helicopter was dispatched for the driver, and the VA Butler Healthcare Fire Department assisted on scene by setting up a landing zone at Crossfire Church parking lot, just south of the crash.
The driver was flown from the parking lot to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with serious injuries, according to Wulff.
In addition, Wulff said people from the SUV were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for injuries.
Route 8 traffic was diverted from Route 8 at Mercer Road while first responders were on scene, Wulff said. The road closure was later expanded from Pine Drive to Benbrook Road during the incident.
“Traffic wasn’t super heavy. We were able to do detours,” Wulff added.
Route 8 was reopened an hour later, he said.
Butler Ambulance Service and Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the crash.
