6 taken to hospital following Hooker Road crash in Concord Township
CONCORD TWP — A two-vehicle crash in Concord Township sent six people to hospitals Friday morning, and first responders still are deciphering how it occurred.
Dispatchers reported the crash at Lou-Lin-Mar Lane and Hooker Road around 10 a.m., saying one woman with a head injury would need to be transported by medical helicopter.
The crash involved a white Chrysler Pacifica and a Mazda sedan.
The woman was one of five people inside the Mazda, which was overturned, according to Gage Ariss, assistant chief of West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department.
A family of five in the Mazda had to be taken from the scene, Ariss said.
A landing zone for the helicopter was set up at West Sunbury's fire station, then changed to Rider Road at Route 38 due to traffic constraints.
Once the woman was taken to the landing zone, an additional ambulance was called for two children with injuries. Two adults were taken by a separate ambulance as well.
Only one person from the Pacifica was injured and was taken from the scene by a Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company ambulance.
Four ambulances were called to the scene, Ariss said.
He added that a child was taken from the scene to the hospital by a family member.
The crash occurred when the Pacifica was turning left from Lou-Lin-Mar Lane onto Hooker Road. The Mazda was traveling west on Hooker Road, Ariss said.
State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
“The cars aren’t showing me much,” Ariss said. “Usually, I can look at it and tell what happened. I’m just confused.”
The Pacifica sustained front-end damage and showed all air bags deployed. The Mazda was overturned nearby. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Traffic was shut down on the intersection of Hooker and Hazlett roads while crews cleared the scene.
North Washington Volunteer Fire Department, Marion Township and Unionville volunteer fire companies and Butler Ambulance Service all responded to the scene.
