Cruisin’ for a fundraisin’

People will flock to ARMCO Park on Sunday, June 4, to see hordes of vintage vehicles dating back decades, but the main organizers of the event, Butler YMCA administrators, actually just want people to see the park itself.

Christina Dreher, director of development for the Butler YMCA, said the annual Wheels of Steel car cruise has been a great opportunity to promote ARMCO Park’s features and the YMCA’s programs there.

“We have the pool and splash pad and the rental availabilities; we want to show off the park, get people up there,” Dreher said. “Then all the money we get goes back to the park.”

The third annual Wheels of Steel cruise will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Dreher said the Butler YMCA collaborates with Butler Rodfathers to host the event. The Rodfathers is a group of vintage car collectors and appreciators, and Dreher said they typically help the event get around 250 cars.

While the Rodfathers help organize the event, Dreher said anyone can enter a car into the show, and the first 200 entrants will receive a commemorative dash plaque and will be entered into a raffle.
