Mobile home fire deemed total loss
CENTER TWP — A mobile home was determined to be total loss by a fire official after a fire Tuesday, June 6, in the mobile home park behind the Butler Flea Market.
Around 8 a.m., crews responded to reports of a fire on Volkswood Drive.
Once crews arrived, additional tankers were requested due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area, said Shaun Milkovich, assistant chief of Unionville Volunteer Fire Company.
The fire was fought with water and foam. Firefighters continually sprayed the trailer to douse hot spots.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Milkovich said the home was a total loss.
Jessica Haas, who lived in the trailer with her boyfriend, said she was visiting the neighbor’s house when she was alerted to the fire.
“The neighbor’s dog started barking. We didn’t know what was going on,” she said.
She said someone ran into the house and grabbed her cat once they realized the home was on fire.
The fire began in the bedroom, according to Haas.
Haas said she was unsure where she would be staying after the fire, since she owns a cat. Friends of Haas were helping her contact the American Red Cross while on the scene.
The West Sunbury, Oneida Valley and Prospect volunteer fire departments, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, VA Butler Fire and Emergency Services and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
