Police: Man threatens district judge, jailed Tuesday

A Butler man was taken into custody Tuesday, June 6, after threatening District Judge Lewis Stoughton, the magistrate in Chicora, state police said.

Matthew Dec, 54, was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment in connection with a phone call received Tuesday at another magistrate’s office.

Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said Dec placed a call to the Butler Township district court in Sunnyview Circle and threatened the staff.

Dec told them he would “burn down Stoughton’s place,” during the call, according to documents.

Police said Dec was taken into custody without incident Tuesday and placed in Butler County Prison.

Dec has a criminal history, including numerous harassment, reckless endangerment and DUI charges as well as vehicle code violations.
