Ohio man accused of dragging, running over woman in Cranberry Township

An Ohio man allegedly ran over a woman with his vehicle two times following an altercation about intoxicated driving in Cranberry Township, according to charges filed Wednesday, June 7.

Edmund Halstead, 54, of Salineville, Ohio, was charged by Cranberry Township police with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanors unlawful restraint and simple assault in connection to the incident.

Police said that on Wednesday night, Halstead and a woman were at Marty’s Suburban Bar on Route 19 in Cranberry Township. Upon leaving, the two began arguing over whether Halstead was too intoxicated to drive, charging documents showed.

Halstead hit the woman several times in the face and body once inside the car, police said. The affidavit indicated Halstead started driving, and the woman repeatedly requested he let her exit the vehicle.

Police said Halstead initially refused to stop, then eventually pulled over. The woman exited the car, and Halstead allegedly began driving again, dragging her along the road.

The woman suffered significant road rash from the incident, police said, and she later fell out of the car.

According to documents, Halstead ran over the woman as she lie on the road. He then put his car in reverse and drove over her a second time, police said.

Halstead placed the woman in the vehicle and drove for several hours into Ohio before dropping her at a hospital in East Liverpool, documents showed.

Police said the woman suffered severe injuries from the incident and was later moved to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.

A preliminary hearing for Halstead has not yet been scheduled.
