Seven Fields Community Days Carnival opens
SEVEN FIELDS — For three days, Seven Fields Town Park will turn into a miniature version of Kennywood, complete with carnival games, rides, fair food and live music.
The annual Seven Fields Community Days Carnival opened Thursday evening, June 8, and will run through Saturday evening, June 10.
Despite a curtain of gray hanging overhead and some rain, the weather did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the young ones getting to experience their first taste of summer fun this year.
Carnival rides included such classic fare as the bungee jump, the gigantic slide, and the tilt-a-whirl. Attendees could also try their hand at classic carnival games such as the ring toss and water guns.
There was no shortage of places to go for food and drink, with stands selling everything from fried Reese’s cups to a gigantic blooming onion to blueberry-flavored alcohol, meaning there was plenty for both children and adults to savor.
Scott Rys of C&L Shows has helped to maintain the Carnegie Mellon University fair, as well as Mammoth Park in Westmoreland County.
"This one’s a bit bigger than Mammoth Park,“ said Rys, who oversaw the ring toss game. ”But I think this one’s nice. It’s set up nice.“
Brooke Waterman’s two children, Blake and Julianna, each won toys during the carnival — a toy gun and a stuffed animal, respectively.
"Everybody seems to be having a fun time,“ Brooke said. ”There’s a lot of games and food.“
The party extended all the way to the picnic area at the community park, with the Max Schang Band of Sharon providing live entertainment from 7 p.m. onward. The Mazeroskis will provide the music Friday, followed by the Alt Rocks on Saturday.
The event returns at 6 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday. Saturday’s events will feature fireworks.
