Construction continues on new Latter-day Saints temple in Cranberry Township
A golden cupola and finial were added to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in Cranberry Township on Friday, June 9, as construction on the church continues.
Jocelyn Christensen, communications director of the Pittsburgh North Stake, said no date has been set for completion of the temple on 2093 Powell Road, but the public will be invited inside for a free tour and open house when the structure is finished.
The temple is a new addition to the worship center, or meetinghouse, at 2771 Rochester Road. The church website noted that while meetinghouses are open for various church functions, recreational events and services, temples are dedicated for sacred church ceremonies, or ordinances.
According to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Cranberry building will be the second Mormon temple in Pennsylvania. The other is in Philadelphia.
Cranberry Township manager Dan Santoro said church members are “the first to pick up the phone” and contribute to community events.
“They’re exceptional community partners,” he said.
