Wheelchair swing dedicated at EDCO park Saturday
The Evans City Lions Club dedicated a wheelchair-accessible swing in EDCO Park on Saturday, June 10, in honor of a former member and involved citizen.
The swing and concrete pad at the front of the park was dedicated to Ronald Voltz, who passed away in 2020. Voltz was initially involved in the project’s creation, but passed away before he could see it completed.
“Ron was always giving back to the community. He placed flags on veterans graves, organized the annual Halloween parade, Easter egg hunt and delivery of fruit baskets to residents of President's Square, making donations to various community organizations,“ club secretary Shelley Natali said.
Voltz was a member of the Evans City Lions Club for 49 years.
Natali said he also had a passion for youth and assisting with projects to benefit the youth of the community.
At the dedication ceremony Saturday, she said the purpose of the swing is to bring joy to the community.
“We are blessing this space, wishing all the good wishes we can for its future, praying the delight and joy will always surround and fill it,” Natali said. “May this space be blessed by the joy of play and connections of friends.
“May it be blessed by those who touch it and move on it and who watch others enjoy it. May it connect all who use it with one another and with wonder.”
All funds for the $7,000 project were raised by donations and fundraisers held by the Lions Club. A second handicap-accessible swing will be installed in the future.
