Larry J. “Pete” Schnell, 76, of Karns City, died peacefully of natural causes at his home Wednesday morning, June 14, 2023.

Larry was born in Bruin on Feb. 14, 1947. He was the son of the late Josiah N. and Minnie Sumney Schnell.

He was a graduate of Karns City High School and retired as a pipe fitter at INDSPEC in Petrolia. Pete attended the Karns City United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking. He also enjoyed going to flea markets and auctions and sitting on his porch. Pete most especially enjoyed the company of his many dogs throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife, Judy P. Seybert Schnell, whom he married in Sligo on April 4, 1969; his children, Kelly J. Barnhart and her husband, Randy, of Butler, Robert J. Schnell and his wife, Kathy, of Wellsboro, and TSgt. U.S. Air Force Audra L. Cubbage and her husband, Michael, of Parker; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kyle, Corey, Collin and Courtney Barnhart, and Meredith and Madalynn Cubbage; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Wilma Schnell of North Washington, Lee Roy and Sarah Schnell of Karns City, James and Ruth Schnell of Chicora, and Dennis and Marjorie Schnell of Kenesaw, Ga.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine Craig of Chicora, and Mary Jo and Doyle Maurhoff of Petrolia; and his faithful companion, his Corgi, “Lucy.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dean and Earl Schnell; two sisters, Clara Mae Edmonds and Helen Stewart.

SCHNELL — Family of Larry J. “Pete” Schnell, who died Wednesday, June 14, 2023, will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at HILE FUNERAL HOME of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City.

A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Beverly Roscoe, pastor of the Karns City United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
