Lemonade, resources available Friday in downtown Butler

People passing by Butler SUCCEED at 150 N. Main St. in Butler on certain Fridays over the summer not only can get a cup of free fresh lemonade, but may also be connected with community resources they didn’t know they could use.

Josette Skobieranda Dau, associate director of Slippery Rock University Center for Community Engagement, Empowerment and Development (SUCCEED), said the agency is bringing back Lemonade Fridays to connect people with one another over a sweet drink.

“Lemonade Fridays are really part of our youth outreach events,” Skobieranda Dau said. “SUCCEED’s Lemonade Fridays are simply free lemonade and cookies to youth 21 and younger as well as community resource tabling at each event.”

Lemonade Fridays are scheduled to take place between 1 and 4 p.m. June 16 and 23, July 7 and 14, and Aug. 4, 11 and 18, and each will feature representatives from a different community organization or business.

Some of the organizations that will attend Lemonade Fridays are the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, Parents in Toto; Pittsburgh Job Corps Center; and the Lighthouse Foundation, among others. The Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV will be at the first event this Friday.

Skobieranda Dau also said locally owned businesses, including McDonald’s, have sponsored Lemonade Fridays, which has allowed Butler SUCCEED to provide these resources — and lemonade — for free.

She said she hopes people traversing Main Street on hot summer Fridays are able to gain knowledge about community organizations that they may not have known about before.

“It's very strategically planned, and we want to make sure there is no cost incurred,” Skobieranda Dau said. “It’s just connecting to people with resources with things they might need.”

Butler SUCCEED is at 150 N. Main St. in Butler.
